Advantages

 

Compared with other disinfection form, UV sterilizer has the following advantages:

1,High efficient sterilization: normally kill 99%-99.9% bacteria within 1 to 2 seconds.

 disinfection agent itself are highly toxic and flammable material. While UV sterilizer has no such potential safety

 hazard .

5, Low maintenance fee: UV sterilizer occupies a small area, structure requirement is simple, so total investment

 is smaller. Lower in operation, it costs only half than that chlorine disinfection in kiloton water treatment.

 

What is UV sterilization?

Ultraviolet sterilization (UV) is a process to eliminate biological contamination, namely parasite fungus and 

bacteria. Two types are commercially available, both in tube size. Generally the one containing a wet bulb -at 

which the water passes directly past the UV bulb- is cheaper.

 

The other type available has a protective quartz tube around the bulb (dry bulb). The latter has the advantage of 

easier cleaning, since debris and slime will eventually settle on the bulb, or quartz surrounding. Both work on 

the same principle.

 

UV sterilization exposes the contaminants with a lethal dose of energy in the form of light. The UV light will alter 

the DNA of the pathogens, by virtually gluing DNA molecules together. The changed cell structure prevents the

 organism from reproducing itself (sterilization), therefore eliminating it.

 

Working principle:

 

 

The UV sterilizer utilizes a germicidal fluorescent lamp that produces light at a wavelength of approximately 254

 nanometers (2537 Angstroms). The water with the bacteria/algae passes over the bulb (or around the bulb if a

 quartz sleeve is used) and is irradiated with this wavelength. As the light penetrates the bacteria/algae, it

 mutates the DNA (genetic material), preventing growth/multiplication of the organism.

Optimal service condition:

 

As UV is a short- wavelength light wave, it has low radiant energy and weak penetrating power and can

only kill the microorganisms it directly radiates on. Therefore, in order to enhance the bacteria-killing

efficiency and ensure the security of drinking water, the incoming water into the sterilizer must meet

the following standard, (and if exceeding the following standard, the killing efficiency may be affected).

A. NO. UV sterilizers are not a replacement for good biological and mechanical filtration, regular water changes,

 or proper c

ontrol of the nitrogen cycle.

Q.What is the proper maintenance schedule for UV sterilizers?

A.The quartz sleeve will need to be checked monthly and removed and cleaned with rubbing alcohol.

 Some
